Adam Belt's Light by Robert Matheson

Adam Belt's Light

Size: Up to 20"x30"
Material:   Digital Image
Year: 2016

This image was derived using a cell phone photo that I took of Adam Belt's You Seduced Me And I Was Seduced, which is a painting and light installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. In my opinion, Adam's piece is a stand-out in their permanent collection. The paint used in the painting is mixed with glass micro-beads that reflect the light in a halo pattern on the surface. In front of the painting is a simple floor lamp shining directly at the painting, revealing the effect. Simple and beautiful. I cropped my photo of his piece and ran it through a black and white scanner app, isolating the light fixture and negative space.
